Viennese JJ wins Eurovision Song Contest
The sensation was perfect when JJ was crowned the winner of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025. With his song “Wasted Love”, he not only won over the expert jury, but also the international audience. With 436 points, the Viennese won hands down. The song is a mixture of ballad, opera and techno. JJ's exceptionally high voice - he is a countertenor - made “Wasted Love” a very special song contest entry. The highest note is a C sharp 6.

Johannes Pietsch, JJ's real name, is no stranger to Vienna: The countertenor has already appeared on the stage of the world-famous Vienna State Opera (including in Mozart's “Magic Flute”) and studies at the Music and Arts Private University of the City of Vienna (MUK). In 2020, he took part in the casting show “The Voice UK” and in 2021 in the Austrian casting show “Starmania”.
After Udo Jürgens in 1966 and Conchita Wurst in 2014, this is Austria's third win at the Eurovision Song Contest. That is why the next show in 2026 - incidentally the 70th Song Contest - will take place in Austria. The city in which it will take place will be decided in the coming weeks.
